A strange disease kills dozens in an Egyptian city, and there is conflict over its identity
A strange disease has spread in the city of Al-Qusayr in the Red Sea Governorate in southern Egypt, which has so far infected dozens, and there are conflicting statements about its identity and cause.
The people told Al Arabiya.net that they have been suffering for 25 days from symptoms of high temperature, vomiting and diarrhea, and a large number of them were detained in Qena Fever Hospital, and their condition is still difficult.
The people of the tourist city overlooking the coast of the Red Sea wrote a statement in 4 languages, Arabic, English, French and German, under the title “Al-Qusair gets sick” and directed it to the Egyptian and international media to save them from the mysterious disease, stressing that the disease has spread in the city for more than 25 days, and doctors differed in its diagnosis.
In the statement, the residents said that the doctors stated that the initial diagnosis was seasonal influenza, and with the increasing number of patients, a committee from the Ministry of Health confirmed, after its visit to the city, that the disease is dengue fever transmitted by mosquitoes and mosquitoes.
The residents' statement added that despite the diagnosis, the controversy still exists in the city about the nature of the disease, while the official authorities refuse to acknowledge the spread of the disease and its entry into the epidemic stage.
The statement indicated that the number of cases that were transferred to the General Hospital in one day reached 680, of whom 98 were confirmed to be carriers of typhoid, which is the closest diagnosis to the truth, but the official authorities still refuse to acknowledge the existence of a problem.
The statement stressed that the official statements confirm that the disease has begun to recede despite the increase in the total number of infected cases and their arrival to more than 3,000 cases so far, at a time when the city suffers from a shortage of medicines and medical supplies, which prompted Al-Ahly to start a campaign to collect medicines, and the people of Hurghada and Ras Ghareb contributed to the Prefecture cities to send large quantities.
The parents’ statement was refuted by official government agencies, where the Ministry of Health stated that the results of the analyzes of samples for hundreds of citizens suffering from fatigue and high temperatures, which were carried out by the central laboratories of the Ministry of Health, confirm that the virus that infected these cases is the virus that causes the fever known as dengue fever, and is transmitted by one of the types of dengue fever. mosquitoes;
For their part, the residents objected to these statements, stressing that the reason for their infection with these strange symptoms is typhoid fever resulting from drinking water from unclean tanks, as the city relies on water in tanks on the roofs of houses.
