Europe's oldest person recovers from COVID-19 days before her 117th birthday
A French nun, the oldest person to live in Europe, escaped the risk of contracting Covid-19, just days before her 117th birthday.
The nun Lucille Randon, who bore the name Sister Andre in 1944, was confirmed to be infected with the Corona virus on January 16 last, without showing any symptoms.
She told local media that she "didn't even realize she was infected".
The woman has isolated herself from other residents of a nursing home in Toulon, southern France, but has now fully recovered.
Sister Andre, blind and in a wheelchair, is now looking forward to celebrating her birthday on Thursday, although she will celebrate the occasion with a smaller than usual group of people.
"She (the nun) was very fortunate," said David Tavilla, a spokesman for Saint Catherine-Laboure nursing home.
"She did not ask me about her health, but asked about her habits, she wanted to know, for example, if the timings of meals or sleep would change," he told the French newspaper, Far Matin.
"She didn't show any fear of getting sick," he said. "On the other hand, she was very worried about the other inmates."
Sister Andre was born on February 11, 1904, and in addition to being the oldest person in Europe, she is also the second-oldest person alive in the world, according to the list of the world's rankings for research on aging.
And when the French radio station PFM asked her if she was afraid of infection with the Corona virus, Sister Andre said: “No, I did not fear, because I am not afraid of death.”
She added, "I am happy to be with you, but I hope to be somewhere else, to catch up with my older brother and my grandfather and grandmother."
