A new class of modern diseases..their causes are unknown
The role of doctors in caring for people’s health is not limited to providing diagnostic or therapeutic services in hospitals, but rather there is a so-called preventive medical service.
In its efforts, it tries to give advice and guidance on the best and most accurate thing that can be done to prevent disease.
One of the most important aspects of the success of preventive medicine efforts is people’s awareness of what the disease state is, and what are the common diseases, because if a person’s health interest is limited to himself or his family members, to the cases he thinks are (diseases).
And that what he knows of their names is only what he needs to go to the hospital and meet the doctor, and everything else has nothing to do with medicine, as he will suffer a lot without receiving any medical help that would benefit him and alleviate his suffering.
And some people’s knowledge of only some diseases, and their belief that the rest, which may befall any human being, are mere (abnormal disorders) and are not considered (diseases), is from complex ignorance, as philosophers classify types of knowledge.
And that some people make three mistakes, the first is not knowing that these abnormal symptoms are a disease, the second, that they classify them as not being a disease, and the third is that they do not turn to someone to treat them.
For example, there is a group of (abnormal symptoms), which may occur to any person, and in which infections are also spread, some may not pay attention to them, and do not care about them as (diseases), and therefore do not go to the doctor to treat them.
Let us review for this example a set of (abnormal symptoms), to see what the link between them may be, and what is the classification and definition of medicine for them.
These are: headache, irritation and dryness in the eyes, nose or throat, dry cough and itchy skin, nausea, dizziness and lightheadedness, difficulties in mental concentration, rapid feeling of fatigue and continuous stress, or sensitivity to some Types of odors, increased rates of asthma attacks or the emergence of asthma in those who did not complain of it before, or changes in personality and joking, such as anger, sadness, crying or depression, or symptoms in the digestive system similar to those associated with colon conditions nervous.
The question about suffering from all these symptoms and disorders, or some of them, is: Is there a healthy thing that combines them, and do doctors have an explanation that justifies us why some complain about all of this?
It may be surprising to some that there is a condition called Sick building syndrome (SBS).
And that all the aforementioned symptoms are, in fact, some signs of that health condition. It may even be surprising if we say that the World Health Organization announced, 22 years ago, the truthfulness of the existence of a health condition called (Sickness Building Syndrome).
And medical experts put in it a definition of this pathological syndrome, specifically the symptoms that sufferers may complain of, and a justification for the reasons why some people contract it if they are in some buildings without others, and other medical information related to this common health condition.
Some may be surprised that doctors use the term “common” to describe the prevalence of infections in this condition.
However, statistical medical studies tell us that 30%, at least, of the residents of new or newly renovated buildings, actually have some symptoms of this disease.
Medical references attribute the main reason behind the emergence of injuries in this case, and the spread of suffering from it, to a defect in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, or the so-called heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
They also attribute it to the indoor air pollution in those new or old buildings with evaporated gases, or volatile substances, from various types of materials used in construction, especially in (finishing) buildings, such as painting walls, doors, electricity and water installations, and others.
The list of reasons may include the use of types of industrial scents to perfume furniture or cleaning, and poor distribution of light, especially the quality and spread of natural or artificial light, inside rooms or in corridors.
As well as the difference in the distribution and sound effect within it, and on those who live or work in it, due to the construction method, the quality of furniture, air conditioning and others. Not to mention the effects of mold, fungi and other air pollutants with allergens or affecting the nervous system.
And if some people are surprised by the number of the above symptoms mentioned, the doctors add it to the hair in other homes, saying that what medical sources talk about about the symptoms of (building disease syndrome) is more than 50 symptoms or health signs, some or all of those who suffer from that disease state.
Because they are diverse symptoms, and there does not seem to be anything linking them, the pathological condition, which describes the symptoms of building disease, is called medically (syndrome).
Also, in diagnosing a person with this condition, it is not required that all those symptoms disappear from him as soon as he leaves that building or leaves the residence in it, because the neurological effects of some chemicals may not go away from the body easily, especially in the most vulnerable people.
Medical culture, albeit at a low level, is no longer today a luxury in knowledge or culture, but in most cases it is a necessity. What the medical circles talk about in lecture halls or medical conferences, and even in the corridors of hospitals, today has become diffuse in its comprehensiveness to much of what surrounds a person in his life.
On the occasion of mentioning the example of (building disease syndrome), there is a serious medical talk about diseases related to (the smell of the new car cabin)!

دور الأطباء في الاهتمام بصحة الناس لا يقتصر على تقديم الخدمات التشخيصية أو العلاجية في المستشفيات، بل هناك ما يُسمى بالخدمة الطبية الوقائية.
وهي التي تحاول في جهودها إعطاء النصائح والإرشادات حول أفضل وأدق ما يُمكن فعله للوقاية من الإصابة بالأمراض.
أحد أهم جوانب نجاح جهود الطب الوقائي، إدراك الناس ما هي الحالة المرضية، وما هي الأمراض الشائعة، لأن الإنسان إذا ما اقتصر اهتمامه الصحي، في نفسه أو أفراد أسرته، على الحالات التي يظن أنها (أمراض).
وأن ما يعرفه من أسمائها هو فقط ما يحتاج إلى الذهاب للمستشفى ومقابلة الطبيب وما عداها لا علاقة لها بالطب، فإنه سيُعاني من الكثير دون تلقيه لأي مساعدة طبية تُفيده وتخفف معاناته.
ومعرفة البعض ببعض الأمراض فقط، واعتقاده أن البقية، مما قد يعتري أي إنسان، مجرد (اضطرابات غير طبيعية) ولا تُعتبر من (الأمراض)، هو من الجهل المركب، كما يُصنف الفلاسفة أنواع المعرفة.
وذلك البعض يرتكب ثلاثة أخطاء، الأول، عدم معرفته أن تلك الأعراض غير الطبيعية هي مرض، والثاني، أنه يُصنفها على أنها ليست مرضاً، والثالث أنه لا يتوجه إلى منْ يُعالجها.
وعلى سبيل المثال، هناك مجموعة من (الأعراض غير الطبيعية)، التي قد تعتري أي إنسان، والتي تنتشر الإصابات بها أيضاً، قد لا يُلقي لها البعض بالاً، ولا يهتم بها كـ(أمراض)، وبالتالي لا يتوجه للطبيب لمعالجتها.
ودعونا نُراجع لهذا المثال جملة من (الأعراض غير الطبيعية)، لنرى ما يُمكن أن يكون الرابط فيما بينها، وما هو تصنيف وتعريف الطب لها.
وهي: المعاناة من صداع، أو من تهيج وجفاف في العين أو الأنف أو الحلق، أو من سعال جاف وحكة في الجلد، أو من غثيان ودوخة ودوار، أو من صعوبات في التركيز الذهني، أو من سرعة الشعور بالتعب والإجهاد المتواصل، أو من حساسية لبعض أنواع الروائح، أو من زيادة معدلات الإصابة بنوبات الربو أو ظهور الربو فيمن لم يكن يشكو منه من قبل، أو من تغيرات في الشخصية والمزاح، مثل سرعة الغضب أو الحزن أو البكاء أو الاكتئاب، أو من أعراض في الجهاز الهضمي تتشابه مع تلك المُصاحبة لحالات القولون العصبي.
والسؤال المطروح إزاء المعاناة من كل هذه الأعراض والاضطرابات، أو من بعضها، هو: هل من أمر صحي يجمع في ما بينها، وهل لدى الأطباء تفسير يُبرر لنا لماذا يشكو البعض من كل ذلك؟
قد يستغرب البعض أن ثمة حالة مرضية تُدعى (متلازمة مرض المباني) (Sick building syndrome SBS).
وأن كل الأعراض المتقدمة الذكر، هي في الحقيقة بعض العلامات المرضية لتلك الحالة الصحية. بل قد يشتد الاستغراب إذا قلنا أن منظمة الصحة العالمية أعلنت ، وقبل 22 عاماً، عن صدق وجود حالة صحية تُدعى (متلازمة مرض المباني).
ووضع الخبراء الطبيون فيها تعريفاً لهذه المتلازمة المرضية، وتحديداً للأعراض التي قد يشكو منها المُصابون بها، وتبريراً لأسباب إصابة البعض بها حال تواجدهم في بعض من المباني دون أخرى، وغير ذلك من المعلومات الطبية المتعلقة بتلك الحالة الصحية الشائعة.
وقد يستغرب البعض استخدام الأطباء لعبارة “شائعة” في وصف مدى انتشار الإصابات بهذه الحالة.
إلا أن الدراسات الطبية الإحصائية تقول لنا إن 30%، على أقل تقدير، من سكان المباني الجديدة أو المُرممة حديثاً، هم بالفعل مُصابون ببعض أعراض هذه المتلازمة المرضية.
وتعزو المراجع الطبية السبب الرئيسي وراء ظهور الإصابات بهذه الحالة، وانتشار المعاناة منها، إلى خلل في أنظمة التدفئة، والتهوية، وتكييف الهواء، أو ما يُسمى أنظمة هافاك، heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
وكذلك تعزوه إلى تلوث الهواء الداخلي في تلك المباني الجديدة، أو القديمة، بالغازات التي تبخّرت، أو المواد المتطايرة، عن أنواع شتى من المواد المستخدمة في البناء، وخاصة في (تشتطيب) المباني، مثل دهان الحيطان والأبواب وتمديدات الكهرباء والمياه وغيرها.
وقائمة الأسباب قد تشمل استخدام أنواع من الروائح الصناعية لتعطير الأثاث أو التنظيف، وسوء توزيع الضوء، وخاصة نوعية وانتشار الضوء الطبيعي، أو الصناعي، داخل الحجرات أو في الممرات.
وكذلك اختلاف التوزيع والتأثير الصوتي في داخلها، وعلى من يسكن أو يعمل فيها، بفعل كيفية البناء ونوعية الأثاث وأجهزة التكييف وغيرها. ناهيك عن تأثيرات العفن والفطريات وغيرها من ملوثات الهواء بمواد مهيجة للحساسية أو مؤثرة على الجهاز العصبي.
ولو استغرب البعض عدد ما ذُكر من الأعراض المتقدمة، فإن الأطباء يزيدونه من الشعر بيوتاً أخرى، بقولهم أن ما تتحدث عنه المصادر الطبية حول أعراض (متلازمة مرض المباني) يزيد عن 50 عرض أو علامة صحية، قد يشكو من بعضها، أو كلها، المُعانون من تلك الحالة المرضية.
ولأنها أعراض متنوعة، ولا يبدو أن ثمة شيئاً ما يربط فيما بينها، فإن الحالة المرضية، الجامعة لوصف أعراض مرض المباني، تُسمى طبياً (متلازمة).
كما لا يُشترط في تشخيص إصابة إنسان ما بتلك الحالة، ضرورة زوال كل الأعراض تلك عنه بمجرد مغادرته لذلك المبنى أو تركه الإقامة فيه، لأن التأثيرات العصبية، لبعض من المواد الكيميائية، قد لا تزول عن الجسم بسهولة، خاصة لدى الأشخاص الأكثر عُرضة للتأثر.
الثقافة الطبية، ولو بمستوى متدن، لم تعد اليوم شيئاً من الترف في المعرفة أو الثقافة، بل في غالب الأحيان ضرورة. وما تتحدث الأوساط الطبية عنه في قاعات المحاضرات أو المؤتمرات الطبية، وحتى في أروقة المستشفيات، أصبح اليوم متشعب في شموله كثيراً مما يُحيط بالإنسان في حياته.
وبمناسبة ذكر مثال (متلازمة أمراض المباني)، فإن ثمة حديث طبي جاد عن حالات مرضية لها علاقة بـ(رائحة مقصورة السيارة الجديدة)!
