Specialized doctors believe that “cupping” is a type of folk medicine, which may be psychological more than it is scientific, because the arteries and veins that carry blood have no division of good blood and “corrupt” blood, but they could not explain the phenomenon of blood coming out of places in the human body. Specialized doctors admit that they do not have a scientific explanation for cupping, but many prestigious hospitals include departments for this type of treatment, believing that what they cannot explain scientifically, does not mean that it is incorrect, especially since this type of treatment has been tried and inherited since ancient times.

Many believe that cupping has many benefits, according to those who reviewed the cuppers, and what they were told about its benefits in treating cases of chronic headaches with which other methods have failed, various rheumatic pains, pain in the extremities, and diabetics, and its importance in reducing high blood pressure and some psychological conditions and cases of paralysis.

Says a researcher in folklore and assistant professor at the University of Maysan d. Karim Al-Kaabi, “Cupping is a treatment that has been known since ancient times, and before the advent of Islam by more than four thousand years.” He adds: "History tells us that the Egyptian pharaohs were the first to use cupping as a treatment for many diseases, and then Islam confirmed its role in rapid therapeutic processes, and that there are other benefits that researchers and scholars know in this field, especially some intractable cases that afflict humans."

Dr. Al-Kaabi explains that “cupping has a key role in treating back and joint pain, gout, abdominal diseases, constipation, indigestion, loss of appetite, insomnia, menstrual problems and other diseases.”

Cupping Maitham Al-Sabihawi says, “Cupping is divided into two parts, therapeutic cupping and is concerned with treating various diseases that many people complain about, such as chronic headaches, blockage of arteries, numbness of the hand and shoulders, back pain, hemorrhoids, and others.”

He continues: “As for preventive cupping, it is to treat some simple cases that humans are exposed to, and some may think that it is an old and unhelpful method, and this is a wrong understanding, because cupping is useful, whether preventive or curative, as it treats various diseases and the evidence for the importance of cupping is that the colleges And institutes tended to include cupping in their curricula because of the benefits they saw in it, and it is now being studied with alternative medicine subjects.”

He added, "One of the patients was suffering from severe pain in the lower back, and he could only sit by leaning on a pillow or something else, and when the cup was placed on the site of the pain, the patient felt completely comfortable and was cured of that pain."

However, he added, “But some are afraid of cupping, and this is a completely wrong belief, especially if it is performed in a clean and proper manner. A person who reads in a book or newspaper while cupping may not feel the action of cupping except for the simple thing that is hardly mentioned, especially by modern cupping methods, and if we assume That a person did not benefit from cupping for a disease, as he benefits from the aspect of purifying his blood from old mixtures and blood cells, and accordingly it has no side effects at all.”

As for the difference between it and the use of Chinese needles, Al-Sabihawi explains, “Chinese needles work on power lines, but cupping results in ten times better results than Chinese needles because the needle works on a small point, while cupping works on a circle with a diameter of approximately 5 cm, and cupping works as well. Also on the locations of the nerves related to reactions, every organ in the body has nerves that supply it, and others for reactions, and then every disease appears to have a reaction that varies in its place according to the end of its nerve.”

He adds that "cupping experts confirm that the end of the Arab month, or during the 17th and 21st of the month, is a suitable time for cupping, because this time is the calmness of the blood circulation, and thus most of the sediments in human blood are removed."

يرى أطباء مختصون أن «الحجامة» نوع من الطب الشعبي، الذي قد يكون نفسيا أكثر كونه علميا، لأن الشرايين والأوردة التي تنقل الدم لا يوجد فيها تقسيم لدم صالح ودم «فاسد»، إلا أنهم لم يستطيعوا تفسير ظاهرة خروج دم من أماكن في جسم الإنسان، يخرج منها أثناء إجراء الحجامة، دم نقي، أو دم ممزوج بأملاح، أو دم يميل إلى السواد يخرج إلى قدح الحجّام من جروح بالغة الدقة، ويتخثر كأنه قطع كبدية، وحسب ما يشكو منه المريض، إضافة إلى توقيت الحجامة مع قرب أيام اختفاء القمر أو بعد اكتماله بأيام محددة.

وعلاوة على ذلك، يمتلك الحجّامون خرائط للجسم، لإجراء الحجامة في الأماكن المحددة، حسب نوع الآلام التي يشكو منها المرضى.

ويقر الأطباء المختصون أنهم لا يمتلكون تفسيرا علميا للحجامة، إلا أن العديد من المستشفيات المرموقة تضم أقساما لهذا النوع من العلاج، إيمانا منهم بأن ما لا يستطيعون تفسيره علميا، لا يعني انه غير صحيح، لاسيما أن هذا النوع من العلاج مجرب ومتوارث منذ قديم الزمان.

ويرى الكثيرون أن للحجامة فوائد عديدة، بحسب الذين راجعوا الحجّامين، وما قيل لهم بخصوص فوائدها في معالجة حالات الصداع المزمن الذي فشلت معه الوسائل الأخرى وآلام الروماتيزم المختلفة والآلام الموجودة في الأطراف، ومرضى السكر، وأهميتها في تخفيض ضغط الدم المرتفع وبعض الحالات النفسية وحالات الشلل.

ويقول الباحث في الفلكلور الشعبي والأستاذ المساعد في جامعة ميسان د. كريم الكعبي، إن «الحجامة علاج عرف منذ القدم، وقبل ظهور الإسلام بأكثر من أربعة آلاف سنة». ويضيف القول: «يخبرنا التاريخ أن الفراعنة المصريين أول من استخدم الحجامة كعلاج للكثير من الحالات المرضية، ثم أكد الإسلام دورها في العمليات العلاجية السريعة، بل أن هناك فوائد أخرى يعرفها الباحثون والدارسون في هذا الميدان، وخاصة بعض الحالات المستعصية التي تصيب الإنسان».

ويوضح د الكعبي أن «للحجامة دورا أساسيا في معالجة آلام الظهر والمفاصل والنقرس وأمراض البطن والإمساك وعسر الهضم وفقدان الشهية والأرق ومشاكل الحيض وغيرها من الأمراض».

فيما يقول الحجّام ميثم الصبيحاوي إن «الحجامة تقسم إلى قسمين، حجامة علاجية وتهتم بمعالجة الأمراض المختلفة التي يشكو منها الكثير من الناس مثل الصداع المزمن وانسداد الشرايين وخدر اليد والأكتاف وآلام الظهر والبواسير وغيرها».

ويتابع القول: «أما الحجامة الوقائية فهي لمعالجة بعض الحالات البسيطة التي يتعرض لها الإنسان، وقد يعتقد البعض أنها طريقة قديمة وغير مفيدة، وهذا فهم خاطئ، لأن الحجامة مفيدة، وقائية كانت أو علاجية، فهي عالجت مختلف الأمراض والدليل على أهمية الحجامة هو أن الكليات والمعاهد اتجهت لإدخال مادة الحجامة في مناهجها لما رأت فيها من الفوائد وأصبحت تدرس مع مواد الطب البديل».

ويردف قائلا «كان أحد المرضى يعاني من ألم شديد في أسفل الظهر، وكان لا يستطيع الجلوس إلا متكئا على وسادة أو غيرها، وعندما وضعت المحجمة على موضع الألم، شعر المريض براحة تامة وشفي من ذلك الألم».

ويستدرك «لكن البعض يتخوف من الحجامة، وهذا اعتقاد خاطئ تماما، وخاصة إذا أجريت بطريقة سليمة نظيفة، فبإمكان الشخص الذي يقرأ في كتاب أو جريدة وهو يحتجم، لا يشعر بعمل الحجامة إلا الشيء اليسير الذي لا يكاد يذكر، خصوصاً بوسائل الحجامة الحديثة، ولو افترضنا أن الإنسان لم يستفد من الحجامة لمرض به، فهو يستفيد من ناحية تنقية دمه من الأخلاط وكريات الدم الهرمة، وعليه فليس لها آثار جانبية على الإطلاق».

فرق

وعن الفرق بينها وبين استخدام الإبر الصينية، يوضح الصبيحاوي، أن «الإبر الصينية تعمل على خطوط الطاقة، إلا أن الحجامة تأتي بنتائج أفضل عشرة أضعاف من الإبر الصينية لأن الإبرة تعمل على نقطة صغيرة أما الحجامة فتعمل على دائرة قطرها 5 سم تقريبا، كما تعمل الحجامة أيضا على مواضع الأعصاب الخاصة بردود الأفعال، فكل عضو في الجسم له أعصاب تغذِّيه، وأخرى لردود الأفعال، ومن َثم يظهر لكل مرض رد فعل يختلف مكانه بحسب منتهى العصب الخاص به».

ويضيف أن «خبراء الحجامة يؤكدون أن نهاية الشهر العربي أو خلال 17 و21 من الشهر، هو وقت مناسب للحجامة، لان هذا الوقت هو هدوء الدورة الدموية، وبالتالي يتم التخلص من أكثر الرواسب في دم الإنسان».
