Last week, the world celebrated the International Week to Combat Glaucoma, or the so-called "blue water", as it is considered one of the most important eye diseases and causes blindness.
According to the statistics of the World Health Organization, about 2 percent of adults (over the age of 40 years) suffer from this disease in the world, and the prevalence of the disease is increasing with age to reach 10 percent of people over the age of 65 years.
Scientists estimate that by the year 2020, more than 80 million people around the world will be exposed to glaucoma, 11 million of them will go blind, and they say that it is the second leading cause of blindness in the world after “cataract” disease. In order to raise awareness of its seriousness, a global week for this disease was allocated during 2008, running from 9 to 15 March of each year. It is a joint global initiative launched by the World Glaucoma Society and the World Glaucoma Patients Society in order to sensitize people to this disease and its consequences and to educate them about the importance of early detection.
what is that disease?
Glaucoma is a disease that affects the eye as a result of high pressure in the eye, resulting in damage to the optic nerve tissue, followed gradually by the loss of parts of the visual field of vision.
The cause of this disease is due to the imbalance between the amount of fluid secreted by the eye and the ability of the eye channels to drain this fluid, which results in the accumulation of this fluid inside the eye and pressure on the internal eye tissues, including the optic nerve, and there are many reasons that lead to a lack of fluid drainage in the eye These include obstruction or narrowing of the openings for drainage, or the presence of infections inside the eye that narrow the channels, and some eye injuries may lead to damage to the tissues of those channels.

On the occasion of the World Glaucoma Week, the President of the Moroccan Association for the Fight against Glaucoma, Dr. Mohamed Zouhairi, stressed that this week is an occasion to raise awareness of the dangers of this disease, calling for concerted efforts to combat it.
In a statement to MAP, Dr. Zouhairi explained that glaucoma is a hidden and silent disease that has no signs of alerting the sufferer.
He added that in the absence of early detection, adequate treatment and regular follow-up, this disease leads to visual impairment or causes blindness, noting that this disease is an eye health scourge that must unite the efforts of all those involved in the public health sector, especially those interested in eye health, in order to combat it.
He pointed out that the direct causes of infection with this disease are still unknown, adding that there are some dangerous factors related to it, the most important of which is the genetic risk of high intraocular pressure, which plays an important role, and the age factor, as the incidence of it increases with age on a regular basis.
Dr. Al-Zohairi continued that there are also other factors, including strong myopia, migraine headaches, Raynaud's disease, and vascular factors.
He explained that socio-economic factors exacerbate the disease, explaining that people who are isolated or live in isolation and poverty are more likely to lose sight than others who have social coverage or who live near major centers in major cities.
He continued by saying that the consequences of this disease appear in a gradual manner, without pain, redness or tears, with the exception of a change in the peripheral visual field, which will gradually develop into the central visual field and then lead to blindness.
For this purpose, it recently organized, at the regional level, at the Moulay Youssef Hospital in Casablanca, a major awareness-raising and examination campaign with the participation of several specialized ophthalmologists, as well as an information campaign to sensitize the public to the importance of regularly visiting specialist doctors for people over 40 years of age.
He explained that the Moroccan Association for the Fight against Glaucoma was established in early 2014 with the aim of participating in the training of ophthalmologists, encouraging and developing good practices in this field, encouraging research in the field of glaucoma in Morocco and contributing to efforts to combat blindness.
Among the associations active in this field are the Moroccan Association for the Fight against Blindness, the Aini Association and the Rotary Club of Anwar Casablanca, in order to sensitize the public to the consequences of this disease, which silently steals the sense of sight.

احتفل العالم خلال الأسبوع المنصرم بالأسبوع العالمي لمكافحة مرض (الجلوكوما) أو ما يسمى بـ”المياه الزرقاء”، حيث يعتبر من أهم أمراض العيون ويتسبب بفقدان البصر.
وحسب إحصائيات منظمة الصحة العالمية، فإن حوالي 2 بالمائة من البالغين (فوق سن 40 سنة) يعانون من هذا المرض على مستوى العالم، وانتشار المرض يأخذ بالازدياد مع تقدم السن ليبلغ 10 بالمائة من الناس فوق سن 65 سنة.
ويقدر العلماء أنه بحلول العام 2020، سيتعرض أكثر من 80 مليون شخص حول العالم للإصابة بالمياه الزرقاء، 11 مليونا منهم سيصابون بالعمى، ويقولون إنه السبب الرئيس الثاني للعمى على مستوى العالم بعد مرض “المياه البيضاء”. وللتحسيس بخطورته تم خلال عام 2008 تخصيص أسبوع عالمي لهذا المرض يمتد من 9 إلى 15 مارس من كل سنة وهي مبادرة عالمية مشتركة أطلقتها الجمعية العالمية لداء مياه الزرقاء والجمعية العالمية لمرضى داء المياه الزرقاء من أجل تحسيس الناس بهذا المرض وبعواقبه وتوعيتهم بأهمية الكشف المبكر.
ما هو هذا المرض؟
والماء الأزرق هو مرض يصيب العين نتيجة ارتفاع الضغط في العين فيحصل نتيجة ذلك تلف في أنسجة العصب البصري، يتبعه تدريجيا فقد أجزاء من المجال البصري للرؤية، وإذا لم يعالج المرض يحدث تلفا كليا في العصب البصري وبذلك تفقد العين قدرتها على الإبصار.
ويرجع سبب الإصابة بهذا المرض إلى عدم التوازن بين كمية السائل الذي تفرزه العين وبين قدرة قنوات العين الخاصة بتصريف هذا السائل، فينتج عن ذلك تجمع هذا السائل داخل العين والضغط على أنسجة العين الداخلية بما فيها العصب البصري، وهناك أسباب عديدة تؤدي إلى قلة تصريف العين للسوائل، منها انسداد أو ضيق الفتحات الخاصة بالتصريف أو وجود التهابات داخل العين تؤدي إلى ضيق القنوات، كما أن بعض إصابات العين قد تؤدي إلى تلف في أنسجة تلك القنوات.
مرض خفي وصامت
وبمناسبة الأسبوع العالمي لداء مياه الزرقاء، أكد رئيس الجمعية المغربية لمحاربة داء مياه الزرقاء، الدكتور محمد الزوهيري، أن هذا الأسبوع يعتبر مناسبة للتحسيس بمخاطر هذا المرض، داعيا إلى تضافر الجهود من أجل مكافحته.
وأوضح الدكتور الزوهيري، في تصريح لوكالة المغرب العربي للأنباء، أن داء مياه الزرقاء مرض خفي وصامت ليس له علامات تنبه المصاب به.
وأضاف أنه في غياب الكشف المبكر والعلاج الملائم والمتابعة المنتظمة، يؤدي هذا الداء إلى ضعف في البصر أو يتسبب في العمى، مشيرا إلى أن هذا الداء هو آفة صحة العين التي يجب تضافر جهود كافة المتدخلين في قطاع الصحة العمومية خاصة المهتمة بصحة العين من أجل محاربته.
وأشار إلى أن الأسباب المباشرة للإصابة بهذا المرض لا زالت غير معروفة، مضيفا أن هناك بعض العوامل الخطيرة المتعلقة به، من أهمها خطر ارتفاع ضغط العين الوراثي التي تلعب دورا هاما، وعامل السن، إذ ترتفع نسبة الإصابة به مع التقدم في السن بشكل منتظم.
وواصل الدكتور الزوهيري أن هناك أيضا عوامل أخرى منها على الخصوص قصر النظر القوي، والصداع النصفي، ومرض “رينود”، وعوامل الأوعية الدموية.
وأوضح أن العوامل السوسيواقتصادية، تعمل على تفاقم المرض، موضحا أن الأشخاص المنعزلين أو الذين يعيشون في عزلة وفقر أكثر عرضة لفقدان البصر من غيرهم الذين لديهم تغطية اجتماعية أو القاطنين بالقرب من المراكز الرئيسية بالمدن الكبرى.
وتابع بالقول إن عواقب هذا المرض تظهر بطريقة تدريجية، دون ألم أو احمرار أو دمعان، باستثناء تغير في المجال البصري المحيطي، الذي سيتطور تدريجيا إلى المجال البصري المركزي ومن ثم يؤدي إلى العمى.
ولهذا الغرض، نظم مؤخرا، على الصعيد الجهوي بمستشفى مولاي يوسف بالدار البيضاء، حملة كبرى تحسيسية وللفحص بمشاركة العديد من أطباء العيون المختصين، فضلا عن تنظيم حملة إعلامية من أجل تحسيس العموم بأهمية زيارة الأطباء المختصين بالنسبة للأشخاص الذين تزيد أعمارهم عن 40 سنة بصفة منتظمة.
وأوضح أن الجمعية المغربية لمحاربة داء المياه الزرقاء، تأسست أوائل 2014 بهدف المشاركة في تكوين أطباء العيون، وتشجيع وتطوير الممارسات الجيدة في هذا المجال، والحث على البحث في ميدان داء المياه الزرقاء بالمغرب والمساهمة في الجهود المبذولة لمكافحة العمى.
ومن الجمعيات الناشطة في هذا المجال أيضا الجمعية المغربية لمحاربة فقدان البصر، وجمعية عيني ونادي روتاري أنوار الدار البيضاء، وذلك من أجل تحسيس العموم بعواقب هذا الداء الذي يسرق حاسة البصر في صمت.
