California study: : Mental illness shares similar genetic activity

A new study published last week in the journal Science suggested that there are three
neuropsychiatric disorders at least, autism, schizophrenia,
Bilateral emotional disorder shares the same pattern of genetic activity.
During the study's examination of genes, i.e. RNA, 800 samples of human brains donated by some people
people with mental illnesses such as autism, schizophrenia,
bilateral emotional disorder, depression, alcoholism,
In addition to brain samples of people who don't have any
diseases, and they found a significant overlap between thousands of "fingerprints"
genetic in people diagnosed with certain diseases.
Previous studies have identified genes common to people with
of certain psychiatric disorders, but this study expanded its horizons during its preview of the results of these genes that act as an indicator of relative activities.
A geneticist and associate professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University who was not involved
Directly in the study, Dan Arking: "There seems to be a lot of evidence that suggests more things are in common than we assumed."
The new study revealed the existence of four groups of
Genes that were less active in neurons in people with autism, schizophrenia, and bilateral emotional disorder.
But in astral cells, which perform functions such as
Maintaining synapses of neighboring cells, one set of genes was overly expressed in all three disorders
.
These results suggest that these three disorders stem from a common breakdown in how brain cells communicate with
each other, according to UCLA neuroscientist and lead author of the research, Daniel Giskind: "Astral cells have always been considered
Supportive cells, but they clearly play an important role in what has been called balance: the usual regulation and neural tangles in the brain.
Information from this study may benefit the development of various treatment methods for a number of
"It's important to use this approach to identify pathways, because it will give you more specific drug targets," Arking said.
"If there is a specific pathway, I can give a drug that affects the pathways without worrying too much about the possibility of finding certain medications for certain genes."
But Giskind warned that common genetic "fingerprints" were not found in all cases of psychological disorder, leaving room
"It's very difficult to separate genetic factors from environmental factors," he said, adding, "About half of the interferences are related.
closely linked to genetic relationships, which shows us that common causative factors may be behind common biological factors by 50 percent
