A study suggests that the sick and the elderly are more vulnerable than others
Health officials in China have published details of more than 44,000 cases of the Corona virus, in the largest study issued since the spread of the virus.
Data provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in China concluded that more than 80 percent of cases were mild, and that the virus posed a greater risk to patients with other diseases and the elderly.
Corona Virus: Why do children survive infection?
Corona Virus: Why did an African student refuse to return from China to his country?
The study also sheds light on the severe danger facing medical personnel who deal with people infected with the virus, which the World Health Organization has named Covid-19.
According to the study, the overall average of deaths among those infected is 2.3 percent.
But the average in Hubei province, where Wuhan is the epicenter of the virus, is 2.9 percent. In the rest of the country, the average is 0.4 percent.
To date, 1,868 people have died from the disease, while 72,436 others have been infected in China, according to the latest official data.
So far, about 12,000 people have recovered from the virus, according to the Chinese authorities.
What does the study tell us?
The study, published in the Chinese Journal of Epidemiology, looked at more than 44,000 confirmed cases of the virus across China as of February 11.
While the results largely confirmed what is known about the description of the virus and the patterns of infection, the study included a detailed statement of confirmed cases - and their number is 44,672 - across China.
Here are some of the study results:
About 80.9 percent of the injuries were classified as minor injuries, while the percentage of serious injuries was 13.8 percent, while about 4.7% of the cases were classified as critical.
The largest proportion of deaths among patients aged eighty and over, at 14.8 percent.
For children up to the age of nine, no deaths were recorded among the injured, while the death rate among the injured up to the age of 39 years did not exceed 0.2 percent.
The death rate gradually increased in the age groups above 39 years, as the percentage among the injured in the age group from 40 to 50 years was 0.4 percent, while it reached 1.3 percent in the 50 to 60 age group, while it rose to 8 percent among those infected in The age group is between 60 and 70 years.
On the basis of gender, the death rate among men increased to 2.8 percent, compared to women, whose death rate was 1.7 percent.
With regard to diseases that increase the risk of death, the study reported that patients with cardiovascular disease are the most likely to die, followed by patients with diabetes, those with chronic chest diseases, and those with high blood pressure.
The study also indicated that 3019 people from the medical teams contracted the infection, of whom 1716 were confirmed, and five died until February 11, which is the last day of the period covered by this research paper.
On February 13, China expanded the definition of how to diagnose HIV infection to include "clinically diagnosed cases" that were separate before this date from "confirmed cases".
